BROWSER STORAGE & ADVERTISING · UPDATED 10 OCTOBER 2026
User Agreement
APE Fieldwork is an educational study companion, not official examination advice. Continue to check current primary sources. This page explains browser progress storage and the advertising controls. Reading or using this page does not grant advertising consent; no agreement-acceptance checkbox is used to obtain it.
Study without an account
You do not need to create an APE Fieldwork account to study, take quizzes or save progress. Choose a state or territory in Study preferences. On a public live-domain deployment, these study features work without signing in. The current private preview's hosting access restrictions are separate from an APE Fieldwork account.
The site uses your browser's local storage, rather than cookies, for the progress record. It stores:
- Your course jurisdiction and randomised-quiz jurisdiction selection.
- Question identifiers you have practised in completed sessions, plus individual answer attempts, correctness, confidence, jurisdiction and dates. Answers are recorded when you reveal feedback, including in unfinished sessions.
- Completed quiz results, scores, question identifiers and answer outcomes.
- Chapter completion and best scores by jurisdiction, competency statistics, and retained records from the earlier chapter structure.
Previously saved browser progress is retained under the existing storage key. Existing accounts and server-held study preferences are not deleted. Where an existing signed-in account is available, its jurisdiction can initialise an empty browser preference and preference changes can still update that account. Quiz progress itself does not automatically sync to an account or another device.
Progress stays with this browser, browser profile and website origin. Another browser, device, or domain has a separate record. Moving from the preview to a new live domain does not automatically transfer it. Clearing site data, storage limits, browser restrictions or ending private browsing can remove or prevent saved progress. If storage cannot be read or written, a notice explains that new progress is temporary. The site does not send the browser progress record to Google as part of this integration.
Resetting progress
Open Progress and choose “Reset progress on this browser”, then confirm. This clears locally recorded answers, quiz results, competency statistics, chapter progress and earlier chapter history. It keeps jurisdiction preferences and advertising choices, and does not delete an account or its data. Clearing all site data in your browser also removes local preferences and may remove consent-manager choices. There is no automatic recovery or cross-device backup.
Google AdSense and advertising storage
Advertising is not active. No AdSense scripts or ads are loaded.
AdSense placements are prepared on Today, Progress and Library, away from quiz questions and controls. They are inactive until the operator supplies genuine publisher and slot IDs, configures a certified consent manager and completes the launch review. No fake live advertisements are displayed. The User Agreement, quiz and results screens have no manual ad placements.
If advertising is enabled, Google and participating third-party advertising providers may use cookies and other technologies to serve, personalise and measure ads, including using visits to this and other websites. Advertising technologies are separate from the browser record that saves your study progress. Even non-personalised ads can use cookies; this implementation does not bypass consent by requesting them.
See Google's explanation of advertising technologies and Google's Privacy Policy. You can manage Google's personalised advertising through My Ad Center. These Google account controls do not replace this site's consent choices. The configured consent manager must identify the actual participating providers and their purposes before advertising goes live.
Consent and changing your choices
Study and progress saving are available whether or not you permit advertising. The prepared loader requires affirmative consent reported by the configured Google-certified TCF consent manager before loading AdSense, for all visitors. Your chosen study jurisdiction is not used to decide your location or consent requirements. If consent is missing, invalid, withdrawn or cannot be verified, the loader does not request ads. No consent manager or advertising cookies are installed by the inactive default configuration.
Use Advertising preferences in the footer to block ads on this browser. That local choice is stored separately from your progress and takes priority over the consent manager. When a consent manager is configured, “Manage advertising consent” opens its settings and removes the site's local block so its choices can apply. It is disabled until that manager is available. Removing the block is not consent: the manager must still report permission. Withdrawing consent after AdSense has loaded reloads the page to stop this integration and remove loaded ad elements; it cannot undo earlier requests or erase third-party cookies. Use your browser's site-data settings to remove those.
Consent-manager storage, duration, regional notices and vendor disclosures depend on the manager configured at launch and must be disclosed there. The site's local advertising block has no automatic expiry and lasts until changed or browser data is cleared. Browser storage being unavailable blocks advertising in this implementation. Blocking ads here does not change your Google account settings or other websites.
Details needed before public advertising launch
The operator's legal name, contact details and applicable privacy contact have not been supplied. These details, the actual advertising-provider list, consent-manager configuration, audience-specific rights and any further terms or privacy notices need completion and legal review before launch. This page is not a legal compliance certification, and AdSense approval is not guaranteed.
