APE Fieldwork launches: a free architecture study tool for Australia

Welcome to APE Fieldwork: a free study tool for architecture students, graduates and people preparing for the Australian Architectural Practice Examination.

Architectural practice asks you to connect what you know with what you would do: clarify a client's brief, recognise a professional responsibility, or decide what to check before taking the next step. APE Fieldwork was created to give that kind of practice a place in everyday study.

The aim is straightforward: make it easier to revisit practice topics, try a scenario and use an explanation to guide further reading. You can study without a subscription or an APE Fieldwork account.

A place to practise, one question at a time

The study tool offers chapter sessions, adaptive five-question drills and randomised ten-question quizzes. Choose an Australian state or territory for your pool, or mix jurisdictions in a randomised quiz. National questions are combined with the local questions currently available; coverage varies and remains incomplete.

Each practice question has multiple-choice answers. After choosing an answer and recording your confidence, you can reveal feedback, an explanation, source links and competency references. The Library provides concise references, while Progress shows your recorded study activity.

The five chapters explore statutory duties, agreements and risk; practice management; project development and procurement; construction services and completion; and ethics, Country and sustainability. Start with the course path to see the topics and coverage notes.

For university study and APE preparation

Architecture students can use APE Fieldwork alongside professional-practice subjects to identify topics that need another look. Graduates and APE candidates can use the same exercises to practise reasoning through selected Australian practice scenarios and return to the sources behind them.

These are supplementary practice questions, not official examination questions. APE Fieldwork is independent and is not endorsed by or affiliated with AACA, universities or architects registration boards. It does not cover every assessment requirement, establish eligibility or guarantee examination success. Keep your course material, professional experience and AACA's official APE guidance at the centre of your preparation.

Your study stays with your browser

Quiz progress saves in the browser you use. It does not automatically sync between devices or domains and may be lost when site data is cleared or private browsing ends. Jurisdiction preferences are also saved locally; an existing signed-in account may separately retain your jurisdiction. The progress-storage explanation sets out what is saved and how to clear it. Advertising is not active at launch.
